These photos were shot in a wilderness dreamscape, Mana Pools National Park in Zimbabwe. We went to Zimbabwe for many reasons, but the number one reason was to see wild dogs, in the wild. Mana Pools is a huge wilderness area, unfenced (similar to a national park in the U.S.), and is famous for allowing walking safaris. With the help of some world-class guides, we found a pack of dogs. The African wild dog, also called painted dog, is an amazing predator only found in Africa. Living and hunting in packs has allowed the wild dog to thrive and evolve over millions of years. In recent times, they are generally viewed as vermin and a danger to livestock, and so are now endangered. A large conservation effort is under way by the Painted Dog Conservation project in Zimbabwe, with a very impressive facility at Hwange.
