This is the herd of buffalo that tried to save one of their own, who had been taken down by a pride of lion. Here, they admitted defeat and immediately after this was shot, retreated. *50% of the proceeds from sales of these photos taken at Mana Pools National Park in Zimbabwe will go to The Zambezi Society, a chartiy that supports the Zambezi Valley, which includes Mana Pools. In 1982, this volunteer organization successfully lobbied against the proposed Mupata Gorge dam site on the Zambezi River, which would have flooded what is now Mana Pools National Park, making the wildlife scenes in these photographs impossible. For more information, click "50% Charity Pledge" at the top of this page, and thanks for helping to keep Mana Pools wild!
